Originally from the east coast, Jennifer moved to Washington State where she finished her Bachelor's Degree combining psychology and community studies. With the local food coop as the  hub of her rural home, Jen took on the role of community outreach. She helped individuals and families navigate the healthcare system; access financial resources and process emotional challenges. With a deep desire to help, she met with a full range of community members, from teens to the elderly.

Through the years Jen continued to take additional trainings and receive certifications that deepened her understanding of psychology and emotional support. She split her time between human services work and expressing her artistic side building custom furniture.

Jen's focus on end of life issues began as she assisted bedside at her brother's end of life. Beside his hospital bed, she was able to advocate so that his physical and emotional needs were met. She describes the deep heartfelt connection that they shared in those final days as "breaking her heart open with love."

Several years later, Jennifer worked in the Social Services  Department of the local hospital. There she assisted patients and their families during health crises; decline and death. She was able to be truly present in those moments bringing information and comfort to those involved.

Jennifer provided end of life care full time for her mother. At age 91, Ms. Schwarz was no longer able to live independently, so she moved to Hawai'i to be with Jen. The three years of her end of life care coincided with the pandemic. Jennifer was committed to keeping her mother safe and comfortable for the final years of her life. Several months prior to Ms. Schwarz' death, she thanked Jennifer for giving her the end of life that she wanted. This touching moment again shed light on how rich and fulfilling the final phase of life can be for an individual.

Following her mother's death and a deep grieving process, Jen pursued certification as an End of Life Doula. She received additional certification from the Telehealth Institute in Grief Support and Counseling to add even more depth to her understanding of the needs of the grieving.

Currently, Jen is working with Support-End-Of-Life, LLC as the End of Life Doula. Available via telephone and Zoom, she is able to reach individuals and families in need across the country. Her work is dedicated to supporting those approaching the end of life with respect, dignity and choice.

Jennifer relocated to Hawai'i in 2003. She lives on the Big Island with her two dogs adopted from a local rescue group.
